Avia Tadmor is the author of the poetry collection Song in Tammuz, winner of the Tupelo Press International Berkshire Prize, forthcoming October 1, 2026.

Her poems, translations, and literary reviews appear or are forthcoming in Best New Poets, The Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day, The New Republic, New England Review, The Rumpus, and elsewhere. Avia’s poetry manuscript, In the Tongue I Was Born To was a finalist for the Jake Adam York Book Prize and the Levis Book Prize. Her chapbook manuscript, Ruth\ˈrüth\(n.) was a finalist for the Tupelo Snowbound Chapbook Award and the Black River Chapbook Competition.

Avia’s poetry received scholarships and awards from Yaddo, the Rona Jaffe Foundation/Bread Loaf Writers’ Workshop, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She was named a Gregory Djanikian Scholar by the Adroit Journal and most recently, a Get the Word Out fellow from Poets & Writers. 

Alongside leading workshops through various literary journals, Avia has taught writing at Columbia University, where she directed the Columbia Artist/Teachers program, promoting no-cost arts education in schools and community organizations in NYC. Currently, she is a Clinical Associate Professor at New York University. 

A graduate of the United World College program educating for constructive dialogue, peace, and a sustainable future, Avia is a trained conflict resolution facilitator. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Harvard University.
