2026 Poetry Fellows announced

New York, NY—April 9, 2026—Poets & Writers has selected ten poets who will participate in the 2026 poetry cohort of Get the Word Out, a publicity incubator that primes early-career authors to make the biggest splash possible with their forthcoming books.

After achieving the career milestone of landing a book deal, all too often writers find themselves mystified about how to draw attention to their forthcoming books. This can be especially true for authors working with smaller independent presses with limited marketing budgets. Get the Word Out helps writers navigate this pivotal moment and harness the opportunities surrounding the publication of their first or second books. Over the course of twelve weeks, the 2026 poetry fellows will engage in a series of workshops led by Carla Bruce, a book publicist with Lavender Public Relations, and attend seminars led by professionals from across the publishing industry. Fellows will be equipped with insights and tools to develop publicity strategies that work for them while building community with peers—all at no cost to the participating writers or their publishers.

Now in its fourth year, Get the Word Out builds on Poets & Writers’ decades-long history of providing practical guidance about the business of writing. The program aims to reduce barriers to success for writers from historically marginalized communities—including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ writers, as well as those from outside of New York City and those whose books are published by independent presses. Poets & Writers will accept applications for the next cohort of early career fiction writers in June. For more information, visit at.pw.org/GTWO.”
