Translation: “The Guitar of Palestine, for Samih al-Qasim”  and “Rice Paradise” by Ronny Someck

Poet and print artist Ronny Someck (b. 1951) was born in Baghdad and immigrated to Israel as a child. He has published 11 volumes of poetry which have been translated into 41 languages. His awards include the Prime Minister’s Award (Israel), the Yehuda Amichai Award for Hebrew poetry (Israel), the Wine Poem Award (Macedonia), and the Hans Berghuis Poetry Prize (Holland). He teaches poetry writing to low-income and unhoused youths and mental health institutes in Israel.

Someck wrote the poem, “The Guitar of Palestine” in memory of the celebrated Palestinian poet, Samih al-Qasim, honoring his literary and political legacy.
